Microsoft shows off new controller, with transforming D-pad

The D-pad on the existing 360 controllers is, to put it mildly, utter garbage. If you want to play any games relying on precise movements, such as fighting games, buying a third-party controller is a requirement. Microsoft hopes it has this problem licked, however, and is releasing a controller with a new, updated D-pad on November 9.

…Do you like this story? Geoff Livingston co-founded Zoetica to focus on cause-related work, and released an award-winning book on new media Now is Gone in 2007.Augmented reality promises a new level of interaction between people and data. Now, even the newest for-profit applications can turn heads by utilizing this new advanced technology. The non-profit sector has started to experiment with augmented reality. One of Sunlight Labs’ early entries is their Recovery.gov mashup. Another example is Amsterdam’s Allard Pierson Museum, which highlights virtual reconstructions of Satricum and the Forum Romanum. But while there are early leaders, non-profits generally lag behind in market experimentation. Several technical non-profits are currently experimenting with augmented reality, said Nathan Makino, Chief Executive Officer of Immersive Tech, a non-profit focusing on the adoption of immersive technology. Other non-profits support and participate at the International Symposium for Mixed and Augmented Reality…

Monsanto Uprooted :: Germany Bans Cultivation of GM Corn

submitted by y2quest to worldnews [link] [4 comments]

…[-]As a scientist you should know better than to reduce an entire countries food supply down to a single gene line in a monoculture monopoly that supports, supplies, feeds and value adds the entire food industry. Darwin spelled out the results a long time ago, science and biology has proven him right every time. Bacteria resisted antibiotics, weeds have already adapted to Glyphosate. Soon a fungi or plant virus will adapt to GM corn and America will wake up starving. No Cereals, bread, meats, sugars, drinks etc etc etc. NO fast foods, not enough fresh foods and no government capable on knowing the difference between eating money and eating reality.

I doubt you are a scientist. You would know better!

Goodbye HDMI, Hello HDBaseT

LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and VS have been secretly conspiring to kill HDMI. And today they set their plans into motion, introducing a brand new audiovisual standard, HDBaseT. While that name may sound confusing, before you slap your head, this will not likely introduce a new kind of cable to your house.

…July 2, 2010ShareTweetFounded by Samsung, Sony, LG and others, HDBaseT looks to replace the HDMI standard while offering more bandwidth.LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valens Semiconductor have been secretly conspiring to kill HDMI. And today they set their plans into motion, introducing a brand new audiovisual standard, HDBaseT. While that name may sound confusing, before you slap your head, this will not likely introduce a new kind of cable to your house.Past A/V standards from industry groups have introduced a plethora of connectors (S-Video, HDMI, DisplayPort for example), so that makes this release all the more unusual. Instead of a new connector, it is based on the Cat 5e/6 network cables, commonly referred to as ethernet cables .It supports cable lengths up to 328 feet. The cable can pass HD and 3-D video signals, as well as data through an integrated 100MBit Ethernet connection. That data feed should allow for new internet-connected TV services, such as Google TV…

…Despite Motorola’s best intentions to the contrary, the Droid X has been making steady progress toward viable custom ROMs, first with root access, then with a recovery method… and now, at long last, we’re starting to get the first few glimpses at legit cooked firmware. The two options we’re seeing so far are Sapphire — originally designed for the Droid of old — and a so-called “FlyX” ROM from longtime contributor Birdman. In both cases, the benefits of eschewing Motorola’s standard builds are pretty obvious: you get Froyo, root, and a host of apps and capabilities preferred by the superuser crowd like surcharge-free mobile hotspot access. The process is a little involved to get these bad boys installed at this point, but with time, we’re willing to bet it becomes a pretty painless endeavor. Follow the break for a quick video of Sapphire booting into stock Froyo on the X — a tantalizing sight, indeed….

iPhone 4 ‘holding’ problem finally fixed… (PIC)

The solution is actually pretty simple.

…There a problem with just getting a decent smart phone case to make it a non-issue? I’d prefer to get an HTC, Samsung, or Motorola (using Android) with a case if I was to get one. Kinda weirds me out when I see an unprotected smart phone. Those are very expensive, very small pieces of hardware- a good couple of millimeters of impact-absorbing material just seems a wise investment….
